Top price on day two of the Australian broodmare sale, conducted in Victoria by Inglis, was Aust$140,000 for the nicely bred mare Tyrani. Coming down from New South Wales to be at the sale, Ariel Arnott purchased the 4-year-old daughter of Last Tycoon -- Mill Rani, by Millionaire on Thursday.
Tyrani (consigned by Rubiton Bloodstock) was sold in foal to former champion Australian racehorse Rubiton, and her new owner proudly boasted that she would visit recently retired group I winner God's Own (by Redoute's Choice) for the 2006 breeding season.
Queensland's rapidly emerging stallion powerhouse Glenlogan Park paid Aust$120,000 for the 7-year-old mare Casa Del Mar (Spectrum -- Startling Miss, by Star Way), consigned by Harvey Park. Casa Del Mar (a winner at 1,200 meters) was sold in foal to Blue Gum Farm's five-time group I winner and international star Elvstroem (by Danehill). Glenlogan Park's stud manager, Steve Morley, is profoundly Australian-minded and saw in this mare a very strong Aussie pedigree.
"Her unraced dam Startling Miss has produced nine foals (eight to race for six winners) and is a half-sister to triple-winning $652,096-earning sire Shovhog, whose highlights include a victory in the listed Brian Crowley Stares and runner-ups in both the group I Golden Slipper and group III Blue Diamond Prelude, plus third in the group I AJC Sires' Produce Stakes," Morley said. "She is exactly the type of mare that suits the way we think, and that theory has really been working of late."
Casa Del Mar will visit one of two new sires at Glenlogan Park this year: Bradbury's Luck (by Redoute's Choice) or Jet Spur (by Flying Spur).
Thus far the sale has an impressive 85% clearance rate and is averaging Aust$15,000.
