Comic Strip Filly Tops Barretts Sale

Legend Lucy, a 2-year-old daughter of Comic Strip whose third dam produced Santa Anita Derby (gr. I) winner Larry the Legend, was purchased by Tom Acker and Bob Toomajian for $67,000 to top Tuesday's sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age sale at Barretts Equine.
Consigned by Havens Bloodstock, the California-bred filly was produced from the Northern Prospect mare Raise a Legend.
Barretts reported 120 horses sold for a gross of $1,134,400, an average price of $9,453 and a $6,000 median. During the same sale one year ago, 107 head grossed $1,164,300 for an average price of $10,881 and a median of $6,500. There were 44 head that did not attain their reserves this year, compared with 20 RNAs in 2005.
Havens Bloodstock was leading consignor, with 21 horses selling for $233,400. Leading buyer, with 13 purchased for a total of $170,100, was Dale Baird.
