TVG will present live coverage of Saturday's $1 million Colonial Turf Cup from Colonial Downs in New Kent, Va. The telecast, which will air from 5-6 p.m. (est), will be simulcast on Fox Sports New York and Turner South.
The Colonial Turf Cup, a 1 3/16-miles race for 3-year-olds, is the first leg of the second annual "$5 million Jacobs Investments Grand Slam of Grass," a four-race series that also includes the July 15 $1 million Virginia Derby (gr. IIT), the Aug. 12 $400,000 Secretariat Stakes (gr. IT), and the Nov. 4 $3 million John Deere Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT). Any horse sweeping all four events will earn a $2 million bonus.
A field of 14 is slated to run in the Colonial Turf Cup, headed by the Barclay Tagg-trained Showing Up and the Patrick Biancone-trained Stream Cat. The third graded stakes winner in the race is the Bill Mott-trained Go Between.
Other likely starters include: International Cat, Outperformance, Roman Dynasty, Prime Diamond, Lewis Michael, Rock Lobster, Unbridled Behavior, Can't Beat It, Yate's Black Cat, Chin High, and Kip Deville.
