Veteran stallion Crafty Prospector is recovering from colic surgery June 13 at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington. The 27-year-old son of Mr. Prospector was standing for a private fee at Fred Seitz' Brookdale Farm near Versailles, Ky.

"It was a colic situation that sometimes comes with advanced age," Seitz said. "He is doing very well, and the outlook is good. We hope to have him home soon."

Seitz said no decision has been made about the future of Crafty Prospector at stud.

"We will just be happy to have him home and healthy, and even without the colic, he's getting on in years," Seitz said. "We will just have a good sit down during the winter and see how he is."

Out of the In Reality mare Real Crafty Lady, Crafty Prospector is the sire of 88 stakes winners.
