Private Vow and High Cotton, the first two finishers in last fall's Kentucky Jockey Club (gr. II) at Churchill Downs, are back as the morning line favorites when they meet again in Saturday's $200,000-added Northern Dancer Breeders' Cup (gr. III) for 3-year-olds.
Mike McCarty's Private Vow, who finished a disappointing 15th to Barbaro in the Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) for trainer Steve Asmussen, is the 9-5 morning line favorite in the fifth running of the 1 1/16-mile Northern Dancer. Shaun Bridgmohan will ride Private Vow, who also won the Belmont Futurity (gr. I) at 2.
Peachtree Stable's High Cotton, winner of the Rushaway at Turfway Park and the Sir Barton at Pimlico this season for trainer Todd Pletcher, is the 5-2 second choice under jockey Garrett Gomez. He finished 2 ¼-lengths behind Private Vow at the same distance in the Kentucky Jockey Club.
Only five entered to challenge those two. The others are Pletcher's Circle the World (4-1) and the Asmussen-trained Admiral's Arch (5-1), as well as Cielo Gold (8-1), Simon Pure (10-1) and Sayhellotolarry (20-1)
