(from Churchill Downs notes)Aaron and Marie Jones' Master Command, winner of the William Donald Schaefer Handicap (gr. III) at Pimlico most recently, will pass on an expected run in Saturday's $750,000-added Stephen Foster Handicap (gr. I) at Churchill Downs.
The 4-year-old son of
A.P. Indy was expected to be one of two entrants for trainer Todd Pletcher in the 25th running of the Stephen Foster. Instead, Pletcher entered only Donald and Roberta Mary Zuckerman's West Virginia, winner of the Westchester Handicap (gr. III) and third to Invasor in the Pimlico Special (gr. I).
Assistant trainer Mike McCarthy said that Pletcher wants to look at another race for Master Command. He said the $250,000-added Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Breeders' Cup (gr. II) on July 1 could be the next stop for the colt.
