Louise Christie, a longtime secretary and executive assistant at John Gaines' Gainesway Farm near Lexington, died June 7 of heart failure in her Lexington home. She was 85.

A Kentucky native and known as Miss Louise in the horse business, Christie worked in the industry for 50 years. She grew up on Coldstream Farm near Lexington at the time her father managed the farm and went to work there after she attended Fugazzi business college in Lexington. Christie also worked at Almahurst Farm in Central Kentucky prior to signing on with Gainesway in 1964. She stayed until 1989 when Gaines sold the farm to Graham J. Beck.

"It was a mutual admiration society between the two," said Christie's niece, Janet Fey, about Christie and Gaines. "She admired him greatly and always told me the last year or two how much she had loved her job. She said she hated to retire, but she just couldn't keep going. She loved her work and the people she worked with."

Christie is survived by several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Sunday, 4:00 to 6:00, at Kerr Bros. Funeral Home on Main Street in Lexington. Services will be held Monday at 2:00, with visitation starting at 1:00.
