TCA Elects New Officers, Directors

Charles Nuckols III, president of Nuckols Farm near Midway, Ky., recently had his term as president of the Thoroughbred Club of America extended to two years.

It is the first time since the early years of the 74-year-old organization for a president to serve longer than a one-year term. The TCA's first president, Tom Piatt, served from 1932-37.

This spring, the board of directors voted to amend the by-laws that extended the presidential term.

"A number of past presidents believe the president could be more effective with the opportunity to serve longer," said Nuckols. "With a one-year term, you have so little time once you've gone through the inevitable learning process."

Michael Barnett, who owns Blackburn Farm near Midway, was elected TCA vice president. To follow the organization's bylaws, Barnett will automatically succeed Nuckols as president when the latter's term ends.

Elected to three-year terms on the TCA board of directors were Clifford Barry, Julia Offutt Cauthen, and William S. Evans III, while Harvie Wilkinson was appointed as sergeant at arms.

These individuals join directors Edward Bowen, Dr. Nancy Cole, Tom Hammond, Ed Saunier, and secretary-treasurer Mike Akers.

Leaving the board after completing their terms as directors were Tony Cissell, Allen Kershaw, David Switzer, and David Greathouse, sergeant at arms.
