Two Godolphin Racing stablemates engaged in a stirring stretch drive in the UAE Derby (UAE-III), with Express Tour defeating Street Cry by a narrow margin in the race that was part of the Dubai World Cup card at Nad al Sheba Racecourse Saturday.

Ridden by American jockey David Flores, Express Tour stalked early leader Nae Eam before taking the lead at the head of the stretch in the 1 1/8-mile test. Street Cry and Godolphin's regular jockey Frankie Dettori rallied to catch Express Tour and those two battled to the finish line. Although Street Cry took a lead of nearly a length in deep stretch, Express Tour rallied for the victory. Lido Palace, ridden by Jerry Bailey, finished six lengths behind the top two in third.

Godolphin Racing manager Simon Crisford said both colts would return to the U.S. for the Kentucky Derby. "I am pleased Express Tour stayed and was not stopping at the end," Crisford said. "The distance was a concern."

Crisford said he and trainer Saeed bin Suroor would discuss with Dettori about which horse he would prefer to ride in the Kentucky Derby.
