Harriett Lane, a game second behind the red-hot Foxysox two months ago, carries country western singing star Toby Keith's hopes in Sunday's $175,000-added Honeymoon Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IIT) for 3-year-old fillies on the Hollywood Park turf Sunday.

Keith and trainer Ted H. West are well aware that a strong performance in the 1 1/8-mile Honeymoon, where Harriett Lane will once again face Foxysox, means an invitation to the $750,000 American Oaks (gr. IT) on July 2.

A field of seven is entered in the Honeymoon, with Warren B. Williamson's Foxysox, undefeated in four United States starts for trainer Carla Gaines, carrying the 122-pound top impost as the likely favorite.

Oklahoma native Keith, who races under the nom de course Dream Walkin' Farms, co-bred and co-owns the Giant's Causeway   filly with Ashford Stud.

Victorious in three of nine starts, Harriett Lane won the La Habra Stakes on March 5 in her stakes debut on the Santa Anita hillside turf course. She then was a fast closing second to Foxysox, losing by one length as the 3-2 favorite, in the one-mile Providencia (gr. IIIT) in her last start on April 8.

"A couple of years ago, Toby's racing manager, Lyndon Bradshaw, called me at Del Mar and said he had been watching us and liked the work we were doing," said West of the contact with Keith. "I've just had a couple of horses for him. I met Toby for the first time when he came out for the Providencia."

Harriett Lane stayed in the barn when Foxysox went on to win the Senorita (gr. IIIT) on the Hollywood Park turf May 6. She has blossomed during the time off since that race, West said.

"We skipped the Senorita because we never had her physically where we wanted her," said West. "I talked it over with Lyndon and finally got her looking good. She flourished during the break."

Harriett Lane, who gets three pounds from Foxysox, breaks from post five and will be ridden for the first time by Jon Court.
