Turf Star Prince Arch Retired

Prince Arch, one of only two horses to beat Kitten's Joy during the latter's championship season, has been retired from racing because of a recurring ankle problem. Breeding plans are undecided.
Prince Arch gave Kitten's Joy his first loss of 2004 in winning the Jefferson Cup Stakes (gr. IIIT) at Churchill Downs. Prince Arch also won that year's Saranac Handicap (gr. IIIT) and the Forerunner Stakes on grass. The following year, he set a course-record in winning the Gulfstream Park Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. IT) in 2:11.44 for 11 furlongs
"He was a top quality horse, and we hope to stand him where he'll fit best," said trainer Kenny McPeek, who keeps the 5-year-old son of Arch at his Lexington farm for owner Raymond H. Cottrell Sr.
Prince Arch, who was bred in Kentucky by Pine Lake Bloodstock, retired with six wins from 15 starts and earnings of $609,186. He placed in four turf stakes, three of which were graded, and had not raced since finishing unplaced in last year's Dubai Water Front Dubai Sheema Classic (UAE-I). His dam, Princess Kris, is a winning daughter of Kris.
