First U.S. Winner for Officer at Churchill Downs

Officer was represented by his first winner in the United States on May 21 at Churchill Downs when his first-crop 2-year-old colt Run Alex Run defeated a $46,500 maiden special field.

The colt, who is out of Electrostat, by Dynaformer  ,won the five-furlong race impressively by 2 1/2 lengths in :57 2/5, making most of the running and pulling away in the stretch under John McKee.

Run Alex Run, bred in Kentucky by Dan Considine and Pine Lake Bloodstock, LLC, was sold as a yearling by Gainesway for $170,000 at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Run Alex Run races for owner Patricia B. Blass and is trained by William (Jinks) H. Fires.

Officer, by Bertrando-St. Helens Shadow, by Septieme Ciel, was a grade I winner at 2 when he captured the Champagne Stakes (gr. I) and the Del Mar Futurity (gr. II) and a turned in a record-setting performance in the Best Pal Stakes (gr. III) also at Del Mar. Officer's first lifetime winner, Sataguali, won at Yarmouth in England earlier in the spring.

Officer stands at Gainesway for $15,000, live foal and is booked full for 2006.
