Edited press releaseAt its annual board meeting May 13, Thoroughbred Charities of America(TCA) approved grants of $1,750,000 to 136 non-profits, representing equine rescue/retraining, backstretch/jockey, research, education scholarships, and therapeutic riding facilities in 35 states.
With the 2005 hurricane season's emergency grants on the minds of the TCA board, one of the approved grants was a $200,000 emergency grant fund.
Following the meeting's conclusion, the board meeting turned to celebration with co-board member Gretchen Jackson, the owner of Barbaro, winner of the 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
"The board members of TCA are extremely grateful to the Thoroughbred farms that donated to our annual stallion season auction, enabling us to fulfill our mission of providing a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers, and by helping the people who work with them," executive director Liz Harris said.
The Stallion Season Auction will be held December 1 at Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington. TCA is an affiliate of Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. For more information go to www.ThoroughbredCharities.org or call Liz Harris at 859-312-5531.
