Beulah Park Sets All-Time Handle Record

Beulah Park in Grove City, Ohio, set an all-time handle record during its 75-day winter/spring meet that spanned Jan. 7-May 6.

According to figures released by the track, $112,983,481 (a 34% increase) was wagered on Beulah races on and off track for a daily average of $1,506,445. During last year's 73-day winter/spring meet, $84,346,729 was bet on Beulah races.

"We couldn't be happier with the results," Beulah vice president and general manager Mike Weiss said in a statement. "We had a fair weather, full fields, and our staff really worked at making the meet a success."

Purses for the 2006 meet averaged $50,473 a day, up 5.6% from $47,819 in 2005. Field size averaged 8.46 horses per race, up from 8.31 last year.

Beulah Park is a major owner of AmericaTAB, an account wagering service that hubs through Oregon. It's WinTicket.com online portal this season presented the 25-cent Fortune Six wager, which produced a world record payout of $179,072 for a 25-cent bet.
