Folklore Retired With Knee Fracture

Folklore, champion juvenile filly of 2005, has been retired because of a stress fracture in her knee, according to trainer D. Wayne Lukas.

Runaway 14-length winner of the Matron (gr. I) last fall, Folklore wrapped up her 2-year-old campaign with a brilliant victory in the Alberto VO5 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) at Belmont Park en route to Eclipse Award divisional honors for owners Robert and Beverly Lewis.

In her only start as a 3-year-old, Folklore, a daughter of Tiznow  , ran third in the Santa Ynez (gr. III) at Santa Anita Oct. 29.

"We're going to retire her," Lukas told the Lexington Herald-Leader. "We wouldn't have to but according to the best veterinarians we could find, they said we were about 30 days from putting her back in serious training and they thought it would compromise her form and she wouldn't be as good as she was."

After evaluating the situation, her connections decided it would be best to retire her, Lukas said.

"She's already accomplished everything," Lukas said.

Folklore ended her career with four wins in eight starts and earned $945,500.
