WinStar Farm, which owns Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) contender Bluegrass Cat, has aquired an interest in Derby hopeful Sharp Humor, the farm announced April 27. WinStar, which is located near Versailles, Ky., stands Distorted Humor, the sire of Sharp Humor as well as of 2003 Kentucky Derby victor Funny Cide. Kenny Troutt and Bill Casner own WinStar. Sharp Humor was bred by Chris Purdy and races in the colors of Purdedel Stable, which is comprised of Purdy and his wife, Patricia, and Edwin and Mara Edelberg. He will continue to run in the Purdedel silks for the Derby.Sharp Humor won the Swale Stakes (gr. II) this spring and was second to Barbaro in the Florida Derby (gr. I). He was named champion 2-year-old male in New York after taking the Sleepy Hollow Stakes and the Bertram F. Bongard Stakes, and has hit the board in six of seven career starts. "Sharp Humor is a gorgeous colt with brilliant speed and the ability to carry that speed," said Doug Cauthen, president of WinStar. "He possesses the strong determination that Distorted Humor has been passing along to his progeny."Said Ed Edelberg, "I'm so excited to be associated with WinStar.
