Commentator Voted NY Horse of the Year

Grade I winners Commentator and Acey Deucy were each named multiple 2005 champions at the New York Thoroughbred Breeders annual awards banquet April 24 at the Desmond Hotel in Albany, N.Y. Commentator (by Distorted Humor  ), who beat Saint Liam in winning the Whitney Handicap (gr. I) at Saratoga, was named Horse of the Year and champion older male.

Acey Deucey (by Abaginone) took honors as champion 3-year-old filly and champion sprinter, and another double championship winner, J'ray (by Distant View), was the first ever to win the NYTB champion juvenile filly and champion turf female titles in the same season. Other NYTB divisional winners were Capeside Lady (by Cape Town) in an exceptionally strong division as champion older female, The Daddy (by Valid Expectations  ) as champion 3-year-old male, Sharp Humor (by Distorted Humor) as champion 2-year-old male, and Certifiably Crazy (by Fit to Fight) as champion turf male, and I'm Hit Sarge (by Compliance) as champion steeplechaser.

Candidates for the nine NYTB divisional championships included 10 graded/group winners in 2005. Also honored were Chester and Mary Broman's deceased millionaire and multiple stakes-producing mare Antespend as Broodmare of the Year, Richard Migliore as Jockey of the Year for the second consecutive year, Bruce Levine as Trainer of the Year, and Richard Simon's Sez Who Thoroughbreds as Breeder of the Year.
