Touch Gold colt tops opening session of OBSC spring sale.
A Touch Gold   colt brought $325,000 Tuesday to top the upbeat opening session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. spring sale of 2-year-olds in training in Central Florida. Tom McCrocklin purchased the dark bay or brown racing prospect for Robert and Lawana Low.

The colt is out of the winning Star de Naskra mare Star de Mint, who is a half-sister to 2003 Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) winner Adoration (by Honor Grades). Consigned by True South, agent, the colt worked three furlongs in 33 3/5 prior to the OBS auction. Dr. David Menard and Dick Schultz bred him in Florida.

In all, 187 horses were sold for a gross of $6,282,000, which was up from the comparable figure of a year ago of $5,323,500. The average price of $33,594 represented an increase of 29.3% from the 2005 first session average of $25,968 for the 205 horses sold. This year's median price was $19,000, up 11.7% from $17,000 in 2005. The buy-back rate decreased from 28.8% last year to 27.5% this year.

The OBS spring auction continues through Friday, with each session beginning at 10:30 a.m. (EDT).
