Fair Grounds Receives Approval for 81-Da

The Louisiana State Racing Commission Monday unanimously approved Fair Grounds' request for an 81-day racing season in New Orleans beginning Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23) and running through March 25, 2007.

In a statement released Monday, the track said Fair Grounds, Churchill Downs Incorporated, local and state officials will address the dates' approval at a news conference Tuesday. Fair Grounds will also make a special announcement to assist in New Orleans' recovery following Hurricane Katrina.

Scheduled to speak at the announcement are Louisiana Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu; New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin; Randall Soth, resident and General Manager, Fair Grounds Race Course; and Andrew Skehan – Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Churchill Downs Incorporated
