11 -- Palmeiro/John Sadler/Pleasant Tap-Fortune Pending, by Fortunate Prospect

Breezed solid 5 furlongs in 1:00 2/5. Likely heading for Santa Anita Derby and should take a big step forward off his second in the San Rafael. Will get better the farther they go. Good Future Wager price at 35-1.

12 -- Hoovergetthekeys/Brian Koriner/Mt. Livermore-Desert Orchid, by Saros

Just a little guy, and he still has to show what he can do against better company. But the more we watch the El Camino Real Derby the more impressed we are with his turn of foot and smooth, effortless action.

13 -- Fifty Stars/Steve Asmussen/Quiet American-My Bubbling Belle, by Tsunami Slew

If this colt wins the Lone Star Derby, he will go to Churchill Downs eligible to win two $1 million bonuses. But he needs to show he wasn't simply handed the Louisiana Derby because of the favorites' bad trips.

14 -- I Love Silver/Dean Greenman/Silver Ghost-Lost Love, by Lost Code

Liked the way he closed strongly for second in San Felipe in his stakes debut and first start over 6 1/2 furlongs. Simply had too much ground to make up on Point Given, but ran on even terms with the favorite late. Looks to be getting good at the right time.

15 -- Jamaican Rum/James Cassidy/Exemplary Leader-Little Ricky S., by Runaway Groom

Was impressed with the way he was striding out through stretch in San Felipe, as if he wanted more distance. Can run on dirt or grass, short or long. Pedigree has excellent blend of speed and stamina, and he definitely looks like a horse who is just finding himself.

16 -- Startac/Simon Bray/Theatrical-Tenga, by Mr. Prospector

Getting lost in the shuffle after sound beating by Hoovergetthekeys. But still too early to give up on him. He's proven he has class and a big turn of foot. Now has to show he can hold his own against the heavy hitters. May show up in Arkansas Derby, which should suit his style of running.

17 -- Songandaprayer/John Dowd/Unbridled's Song-Alizea, by Premiership

Not going to give up on him after one defeat. Gulfstream was playing loose that day, and he was trying new tactics. Should improve on a tighter, packed-down surface, and could get that in the Blue Grass Stakes. Looking for big effort at Keeneland.

18 -- True Concern/Tom Amoss/Concern-Pithy, by Quiet American

The Louisiana Derby may have been a fluke race, but this colt's explosive move from last to first was no fluke. He seems to be flourishing under the care of Tom Amoss, who is about ready to shine in the national spotlight. If he can duplicate that move in the Arkansas Derby, then he should be a force to be reckoned with on Derby Day.

19 -- Meetyouathebrig/Elliott Walden/Out of Place-Always Be Mine, by Kris S.

Looking for big improvement in Spiral Stakes. Drew bad post in the Fountain of Youth and didn't seem to handle the track, which is not uncommon at Gulfstream. Showed last year what a fast, versatile, classy colt he is. Just needs to show some consistency. The talent is there.

20 -- Romolo's Fritzi/John Terranova/Cryptoclearance-I'm a fighter, by Fit to Fight

If he's Derby material he should run a huge race in the Rushaway Stakes, then they'll have to decide if they want to stick with the original plan to run in the Wood, which looks to be coming up very strong. Looks to be maturing and finding himself at the right time.

KNOCKING ON THE DOOR: Gotham winner RICHLY BLENDED likely will try to keep stretching out in Wood Memorial, but is not being considered for the Derby at this time. Exceptionally gifted colt with a bright future, but only has three career starts. Record, talent, and status very similar to CRAFTY C.T. BURNING ROMA ran a big race in Tampa Bay Derby. Love everything about this colt; the consummate pro. Owner has been saying he's pointing for the Preakness, but is now hedging, saying if he runs big in Wood or Blue Grass he could change his mind. Federico Tesio another option if Preakness-bound. HOLIDAY THUNDER is only 50/50 to make the Spiral. Lung infection and foot problems not making things easy for him. If you're looking for a monster longshot in his next race who should improve dramatically off last, then keep an eye on IT'S SO SIMPLE, whose race in Florida Derby was much better than it looked on paper. Lukas still not out of it, as BUCKLE DOWN BEN has been working super at Santa Anita, latest being 6 furlongs in 1:12 4/5. Runs next in Spiral. Lukas still may give another chance to SCORPION and TURNBERRY ISLE. GLOBAL GAIT also sharp, working in 1:12 3/5. OMMADON'S Derby status all hinges on whether Tom Walsh can get him in an allowance race coming up. If he can and the colt runs big first time out, then it should set him up nicely for the Wood Memorial. But would like to see a change of tactics and take him back off the pace. Al Stall very high on STRIKE IT SMART, who runs in Rebel Stakes this weekend.
