Purdedel Stable's Sharp Humor, winner of the Swale (gr. II) and runner-up in the Florida Derby (gr. I), worked a sizzling five furlongs on Thursday at Churchill Downs in preparation for a planned start in the May 6 Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I.

The New York-bred son of Distorted Humor   zipped the distance over a "fast" track for trainer Dale Romans in :59 3/5. The move under exercise rider Faustino Orantes ranked as the second fastest of 19 moves at the distance.

"He went as good as he could go," said Romans. "He couldn't be doing any better right now."

Sharp Humor would be the first Kentucky Derby starter for Romans, who was born in Louisville and has been leading trainer at Churchill Downs seven times.

"He's improved since January 1st; every day I think he's gotten better," said Romans. "We'll probably work one long work - maybe next Thursday - and then come back the next Saturday and give him a work for the race, and that'll be it."

Romans' colt has a career record of 4-1-1 in seven races with earnings of $456,410.
