Foxysox Steps Lively in Providencia Victory
Warren B. Williamson's British invader Foxysox won her third straight since arriving in the United States with a nifty move along the rail for Alex Bisono, registering a one-length win in the $109,400 Providencia (gr. IIIT) for 3-year-old fillies Saturday at Santa Anita. The English-bred daughter of Foxhound, unimpressive in five starts as a 2-year-old in her home country, notched her first graded stakes win for trainer Carla Gaines. Foxysox broke her maiden in February and captured the China Doll March 11, both on the Santa Anita turf. All three wins have been at the one-mile distance. The winning time Saturday was 1:34 4/5 on firm going. After stalking the pace along the rail, Foxysox waited on the far turn for room and split horses coming into the stretch. She squeezed her way back to the inside to get the lead in mid-stretch under urging from Bisono and edged away in deep stretch to hold off the charging 3-2 favorite Harriett Lane and Chosen Royalty with determination.Harriett Lane, ridden by Corey Nakatani, nosed Chosen Royalty and Alex Solis for second, with Shermeen one length behind in fourth. Two Turn Halo set a quick pace of :22 and :45 before giving way to the Irish-bred Shermeen, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, who led into the stretch after a six-furlong split of 1:09 3/5. She was overtaken by the first three in deep stretch. The chestnut filly Foxsox earned $65,640, increasing her career bankroll to $190,824 with a career line of 3-0-2 in eight starts. The third choice in the field of eight, she paid $10.20, $4.40 and $3.20. The Ted West-trained Harriett Lane, who had a three-race winning streak snapped, returned $3 and $2.40. Chosen Royalty, who was making her stakes and turf debut after starting her career with two wins for trainer Bruce Headley, was $3.60 to show.Karlee's Kitten finished fifth, followed by Shaperelli, Golden Silk and Two Turn Halo.
