Foxysox, undefeated in two starts at Santa Anita after a nondescript start to her career in England last year, makes her graded stakes debut Saturday in the $100,000 Providencia (gr. IIIT) for 3-year-old fillies going a mile on the turf.

The British-bred daughter of Foxhound failed to win in five starts in England at 2 while managing a pair of third-place finishes. But the Warren B. Williamson-owned chestnut filly has turned it around for trainer Carla Gaines at Santa Anita.

Off since mid-October Foxysox broke her maiden at first asking in a one-mile turf race by a half-length Feb. 9. She came back March 11 to win the China Doll over the same distance on a good course by 1 1/4 lengths over Providencia foe Golden Silk. She used a stalking style in both races and in the China Doll she made her winning bid between horses even though jockey Alex Bisono lost his whip a furlong from the wire.

Her eight rivals Saturday include Harriett Lane, who has won three in a row on the Santa Anita lawn for trainer Ted H. West, including the La Habra at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside course in her last start March 5. The Giant's Causeway   filly broke her maiden at the one-mile distance to begin her winning streak Jan. 6.

China Doll runner-up Golden Silk ran third in last fall's Oak Leaf (gr. II) before trainer James Cassidy switched the Florida-bred filly to the turf. She made her first start of the year in the China Doll.

The field also includes the Bruce Headley-trained Chosen Royalty, who is unbeaten in two tries and makes her first start on the grass in her stakes debut.

The Irish-bred Shermeen finished a closing fourth in the China Doll in her first U.S. start for trainer James Lloyd. She ran third in a group III event in her last try in England on Oct. 8.
