Keeneland president Nick Nicholson and Russell Williams, vice president of Hanover Shoe Farms, are the new chairman and vice chairman, respectively, of the American Horse Council. The AHC board of trustees met April 3 as part of the organization's issues forum in Washington, D.C.
"We are pleased to have someone with Nick Nicholson's stature and background as chairman of the American Horse Council," AHC president Jay Hickey said. "He has a long relationship with the AHC and a great understanding of the legislative process and what the AHC's mission is. He well respected not only in the Thoroughbred industry but the entire horse industry."
On April 4, the AHC presented its Rolapp Award to Rep. Ron Lewis of Kentucky, and its Van Ness Award to Glen Eaton, president of the Minnesota Horse Expo. Lewis serves on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee and has been instrumental in passage of horse industry-related bills, while Eaton has been active in supporting the Minnesota Horse Council.
The AHC also recognized former chairman Jim Barton for his years of service to the organization.
