Jockey Jim Powell Found Dead

Jim Powell, who won eight riding titles at Turf Paradise, was found dead March 13. The Phoenix, Az., native was 50. His first win came in 1967, with his initial riding title following four years later. His most recent riding crown was in 1981. Powell won 3,587 races from 27,455 mounts good for $15,997,565 in purses.

Powell is survived by two children and three grandchildren. Turf Paradise will hold a memorial service March 22 in the upper clubhouse.
