Popcorn Deelites, an Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Facility resident and star of the 2003 film Seabiscuit
, will be featured in the paddock presentations held during Keeneland's "Breakfast with the Works" April 15.
A low-level claimer, Popcorn Deelites shifted careers when he was cast as one of six horses to play Seabiscuit in the Oscar-nominated film. Before his retirement from racing, the gelding accumulated 11 wins and nearly $60,000 in a six-year career.
Based in Midway, Ky., at Hurstland Farm, Old Friends is the only Thoroughbred rescue and retirement facility to accept stallions.
Held each Saturday morning during Keeneland's race meet, "Breakfast with the Works" features a hot buffet breakfast, trackside commentary, and children's activities starting at 7:00 a.m. Paddock demonstrations follow at 8:45 a.m., and a handicapping seminar is at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5 for adults and children ages four and older.
