D. Wayne Lukas-trained Scorpion among contenders in Sunday's Gotham.
A field of eight evenly matched 3-year-olds will head to the post for the 49th edition of the $200,000 Gotham Stakes (g. III) Sunday at Aqueduct. Co-highweights will be Marciano and Regal Shivers at 120 pounds, four more than the remaining six entrants.

Win More Stable's Marciano has delivered two knockout races at Laurel, winning the Ambernash and the Herat. The son of Two Punch is conditioned by Tim Ritchey. "He hasn't grown into himself yet," Ritchey said. "He's still pretty leggy. The more we get into his 3-year-old season, the better he will be."

"We liked Regal Shivers from the first time out," said Nick Galati, assistant to trainer Nick Zito. "He ran into a lot of trouble last year with bad trips."

D. Wayne Lukas sends out the highly regarded Scorpion, coming off an impressive allowance score at Gulfstream. The son of 1977 Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew tries to give Lukas his first Gotham victory. Scorpion has yet to earn a stakes win, but finished in the money against competition such as City Zip and Yonaguska in 2000.

Richly Blended comes into the Gotham in sharp form, having bested allowance competition at Laurel two weeks ago. The son of Rizzi is trained by Ben Perkins Jr.

Adding to the appeal of the race is Eugene Melnyk's Speightstown, a $2-million purchase who will be trying eight furlongs for the first time.

The contestants for the Gotham in post position order with jockeys is: Richly Blended, Rick Wilson; Speightstown, Aaron Gryder; Bianco Appeal, Norberto Arroyo Jr.: Scorpion, David Flores; Marciano, Mark Johnston; Voodoo, Heberto Castillo Jr.; Regal Shivers, Javier Castellano; and Mr. John, John Velazquez.

The Gotham will air live on espn2 at 4:40 EST.
