Hallowed Dreams puts her new three-race winning streak on the line in Saturday's $125,000 Victoria Lass Handicap at Fair Grounds. The 4-year-old will carry 121 pounds, spotting her four rivals from seven to 10 pounds in the six-furlong contest.
The daughter of Malagra out of Pacific's Dream has turned in a pair of winning performances over the Fair Grounds oval this season, taking an allowance contest before capturing the Pan Zareta Feb. 10, when she defeated the recently retired Roxelana. For the Victoria Lass, Hallowed Dreams will have the services of regular rider Sylvester Carmouche.
Trainer Steve Asmussen will send out a pair of contenders, My Brent's Diamond and Fiesty Countess, in an attempt to upend the favorite. Fiesty Countess finished just a neck back of Hallowed Dreams in an allowance race in December. My Alibi, also trying the Victoria Lass, was runner-up to the favorite in the Pan Zareta. Quanah completes the lineup.
Hallowed Dreams, who began her career with 16 consecutive victories, is now 19 for 20, good for $472,444 in earnings for owners Johnny Gaspard and Lloyd Romero, who also trains her. She was bred in Louisiana by Mike Kennington.
