Edited press release
Gulfstream Park president and general manager Scott Savin announced Monday a purse hike of $10,000 for each overnight race that closes with nine or more entries for the Florida Derby weekend, April 1-2.

"Horsemen are supporting our meet in a strong fashion," Savin said. "The Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association felt the increases should be uniform for all levels of racing, and we agree. We are fortunate to have solid participation in our meet at all levels."

The 55th running of the $1 million Florida Derby is one of seven stakes carded for Saturday. Also slated are the grade III, $150,000 Pan Am, the $150,000 Orchid (gr. III), the $100,000 Skip Away (gr. III), the $100,000 Artax, the $75,000 Spectacular Bid and the $75,000 Lure.
