Lael Stable's undefeated 3-year-old Barbaro worked a half-mile in :48 Monday morning at Palm Meadows with regular exercise rider Peter Brett aboard in preparation for his engagement in Saturday's $1 million Florida Derby (gr. I) at Gulfstream Park.
"He worked great. He's ready to go," said trainer Michael Matz later in the morning. "He'll van down there on the morning of the race."
The homebred son of
Dynaformer has won all four of his career starts, the first three on turf and the last over a 'sloppy' track here in the Holy Bull Stakes (gr. III) Feb. 4.
Also on the Palm Meadows tab Monday morning working for the Florida Derby was West Point Thoroughbreds' Flashy Bull, who was timed a half-mile in :49 2/5.
Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the son of
Holy Bull finished third in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II) last out on March 4, but was awarded to second upon the disqualification of Corinthian, elevating First Samurai to the victory.
