Tampa Bay Boosts Purses to All-Time Record Level

Tampa Bay Downs officials announced Tuesday that purses will be increased by $500 per overnight race, bringing average daily projected overnight purses to a new all-time record level of $133,000 per day, eclipsing last year's record of $121,000 per day or 10 percent ($12,000). The increase will be effective March 25.

The purse increases are partially possible because of the overwhelming response from all-source wagering on Tampa Bay's Festival Day, up from $6.8 million to the new record of $10.5 million, said track vice president and general manager, Peter Berube. "The meet also has seen strong increases both on and off the track, enabling us to increase the purses from an already record breaking level."
