Vodafone Epsom Derby (Eng-I) winner Sinndar won his second straight classic and a $1-million bonus by winning the Budweiser Irish Derby by nine lengths at the Curragh Sunday. With Johnny Murtagh in the irons, 11-10 favorite Sinndar completed the 1 1/2-miles in 2:33.9 over yielding turf. Glyndebourne finished second, 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Ciro.
The Aga Khan's Sinndar rallied to the lead with 1/4-mile to run and drew off impressively through the stretch. French Derby (Fr-I) winner Holding Court, who was also eligible for the $1-million bonus, finished sixth. Sagitta Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) winner King's Best was pulled up on the backstretch.
Three-year-old Sinndar (Grand Lodge--Sinntara, by Lashkari) won his debut race at the Curragh in September and followed that with a head victory in the National Stakes (Ire-I) two weeks later. He made his sophomore debut in the listed Ballysax Stakes at Leapordstown in April, finishing second, a head behind Grand Finale. He defeated Bach by a head in the 1 1/4-mile Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial (Ire-III) before winning the Vodafone Derby by a length. With the Irish Derby win, Sinndar improves his career record to five wins from six career starts.
