Commentator (right) finishes ahead of Saint Liam to win the Whitney Handicap.
Tracy Farmer's Commentator, winner of last year's Whitney Handicap (gr. I) over eventual Horse of the Year Saint Liam, is ready to begin training at Palm Meadows training center, trainer Nick Zito said Wednesday.
Commentator has not run since he was double-teamed by a pair of Rick Dutrow's rabbits in the Sep. 10 Woodward Stakes (gr. I), finishing a distant third. The gelded son of
Distorted Humor came out of the race with a shin injury.
"He's doing great," Zito said. "He'll be ready for his first breeze in about two weeks."
Commentator had won six of seven career starts by an average margin of 9 3/4 lengths before his game neck victory in the Whitney. In the Woodward, Dutrow's rabbits took turns running at him, resulting in a suicidal :45 2/5 half.
Bred in New York by Michael Martinez, Commentator was purchased by Farmer at the Fasig-Tipton July yearling sale for $135,000.
