'Virgenes Winner Balance Leads Oaks Pool

Balance and Wild Fit, the top two finishers in the recent Las Virgenes (gr. I) at Santa Anita, and Misty Rosette, winner of Gulfstream Park's Old Hat (gr. III), were the betting choices at the end of Thursday's opening day of betting in Pool 2 of Churchill Downs' Kentucky Oaks Future Wager.Amerman Racing Stable's Balance, winner of the Las Virgenes for trainer David Hofmans, was the 9-2 favorite among 24 betting interests at the end of Thursday's first of four days of betting in the second of three pools in the 2006 Oaks Future bet. Michael Tabor, Mrs. John Magnier and Derrick Smith's Las Virgenes runner-up Wild Fit, winner of the Del Mar Debutante (gr. I) and runner-up in the Alberto VO5 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), closed as the 7-1 second choice. Misty Rosette, owned by Sonia Chapman and Gary Tsujimoto, was a close third choice at 8-1.A total of $3,772 was wagered on the opening day of the Oaks Future pool. Betting is scheduled to resume at noon (all times Eastern) on Friday and the pool will conclude at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.The $500,000-added Kentucky Oaks (gr.
