Louisiana 2-Year-Old Sale Average Up 15.3%

While the number of horses sold and gross were down, the average rose 15.3% at Fair Grounds Sales Co.'s 2-year-olds in training sale held March 13. A total of 23 juveniles were sold for $384,300 at the New Orleans sale, good for an average of $16,708. Last year, 31 2-year-olds sold for $449,200 for an average of $14,490.
The sale topper, a gelded son of Maria's Mon out of Taylor's Promise named Moonmon, was purchased for $50,000 by Richard Englander. Maria's Mon is also the sire of Monarchos, winner of the Florida Derby (gr. I) on March 10.
Raptide, by Zuppardo's Prince out of Run Prissy Run sold for $49,500. The colt was signed for by H. Rowe Green Jr.
An Excavate filly, named Sunny Scarlett, was the top-priced female at $27,000. She was sold to C. Mitchell and Noral Tate.
In addition, a pair of horses of racing age were sold for $4,100.
