Zabeel Notches 100th Stakes Winner

New Zealand sire Zabeel, a leading sire in Australia and New Zealand, sired his 100th stakes winner.Zabeel, by Sir Tristram--Lady Giselle, by Nureyev), notched the milestone when the 5-year-old mare Steflara (out of Blue Storm, by Bluebird) returned from a 19-week layoff to win the $100,000 group III Breeders' Classic over 6 furlongs at Randwick in Sydney.Steflara was ridden by Zac Purton for trainer John O'Shea, A $170,000 yearling at the 2002 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney, she now has three wins and four placings in 11 starts.Of Zabeel's 100 stakes winners, an incredible 34 have won a group I race. Group I winner Zabeel stands at Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud, where his sire stood until his death in 1997. Zabeel has led the sires list in both Australia and New Zealand.
