Zabeel Notches 100th Stakes Winner

New Zealand sire Zabeel, a leading sire in Australia and New Zealand, sired his 100th stakes winner.
Zabeel, by Sir Tristram--Lady Giselle, by Nureyev), notched the milestone when the 5-year-old mare Steflara (out of Blue Storm, by Bluebird) returned from a 19-week layoff to win the $100,000 group III Breeders' Classic over 6 furlongs at Randwick in Sydney.
Steflara was ridden by Zac Purton for trainer John O'Shea, A $170,000 yearling at the 2002 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney, she now has three wins and four placings in 11 starts.
Of Zabeel's 100 stakes winners, an incredible 34 have won a group I race.
Group I winner Zabeel stands at Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud, where his sire stood until his death in 1997. Zabeel has led the sires list in both Australia and New Zealand.
