Richard Mandella documentary to air on HRTV.
(from HRTV release)Racing fans will be treated to a unique, behind-the-scenes look at Thoroughbred racing when HorseRacing TV presents the documentary,
"On The Muscle," in a three-part series, beginning on Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. ET.
Produced by Pony Highway Productions, with an original score by Charles Gross,
"On the Muscle: Portrait of a Thoroughbred Racing Stable" spends an intimate year detailing and chronicling the inner workings of Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella's top-flight racing stable. Among the horses featured are Pleasantly Perfect, The Tin Man, Redattore, Kudos, Ile de France, and Brisquette. The series culminates with Mandella's unprecedented four-win day at the 2003 Breeders' Cup World Championships at Santa Anita.
The series debut will be followed by two more 90-minute shows: March 7 at 5 p.m. ET and March 15 at 8 p.m. ET. Following the March 15 show, HRTV will present a live call-in segment with Mandella, filmmakers Bill Yahraus and Robin Rosenthal, and HRTV host Becky Witzman - a former assistant trainer to Mandella.
"We're thrilled that HRTV has given us the opportunity to air the series exactly as it was conceived," said Yahraus. "While we have released
'On The Muscle' on DVD, we always intended for it to be viewed over three weeks, in the form of an equine mini-series."
