Mark Guidry became the 36th jockey to win 4,000 races by guiding Manitowish to a 1 1/4-length win in the fifth race at Arlington International Saturday.

"I've been very fortunate to ride a lot of nice horses," said Guidry, who went on to thank fellow jockey Ray Sibille "for keeping me in line." Sibille won his 4,000th race earlier this year.

Guidry won his first race in 1978 aboard Tempermental Tom. He began riding the Chicago circuit in the late 1980's. He won riding titles at Sportsman's Park (nine times), Hawthorne (7), and one at Arlington. He leads the jockey standings for the current Arlington International meet. (Chart, Equibase)
