A total of 183 Finger Lakes Race Track Thoroughbreds found new homes in 2005 through volunteer efforts of the Exceller Fund (http://www.excellerfund.org) and the Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program.
The Exceller Fund was responsible for the placement of 121 thoroughbreds, and The Finger Lakes Thoroughbred Adoption Program placed 62 Thoroughbreds in new homes in 2005.
According to a release from the Exceller Fund, its volunteers are active on the backside of Finger Lakes racetrack weekly, helping to provide trainers and owners with free internet bulletin board listings.
As a result of her efforts to help horses at Finger Lakes find new homes, Dr. Margaret Ohlinger, track veterinarian, has been nominated for the ESL Jefferson Award by an Exceller Fund volunteer. The ESL Jefferson Awards recognize volunteers in the Rochester, New York, area.
