Pensioned Central Kentucky stallion Shuailaan died of colic Jan. 31 at Equine Transitional Training Alliance near Midway, Ky.
The 17-year-old son of Roberto sired six stakes winners and last stood at Alfred Nuckols Jr.'s Hurstland Farm near Midway.
Bred in Kentucky by William S. Farish and W.S. Kilroy, Shuailaan was bought for $750,000 by Darley Stud Management at the 1990 Keeneland July yearling sale from Farish's Lane's End. Shuailaan was a stakes winner in England for Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum and retired with earnings of $134,910 while also racing in Dubai.
Shuailaan, who was produced from the Alydar mare Lassie's Lady, entered stud at Ben P. Walden Jr.'s Vinery near Midway, Ky. He sired two champions, La Tizona (in Peru) and I Will Dance (in Austria), and the earners of $5 million.
