Beulah Park, River Downs Jockeys Covered by Workers' Comp

Beulah Park racetrack announced Monday that jockeys riding at the Ohio track and at River Downs are now insured under a newly-developed racetrack workers' compensation program.

Under the program, which is part of the state of Ohio's general Workers' Compensation Fund, all jockeys riding at the two tracks will be covered for medical expenses and disabilities resulting from racetrack injuries.

Coverage under the plan has been in place at Beulah since the winter/spring meet began Jan. 7.

"By partnering with the state's fund, our jockeys now have unlimited accident-related benefits. This is the best coverage provided for jockeys anywhere in the country," said Beulah Park's executive vice president Mike Weiss.

The Beulah Park release said the Grove City racetrack will administer the program for jockeys racing at both tracks, including the payment of premiums on their behalf.
