Glitter Woman, a grade I winner and millionaire for Joseph Allen, was euthanized Jan. 12 because of colic after delivering a Fusaichi Pegasus filly. The filly died three days later.

Glitter Woman, who was boarded at the Hancock family's Claiborne Farm near Paris, Ky., could have been mistaken for "Wonder Woman" the way she ran the first part of her 3-year-old season in 1997. In consecutive fashion at Gulfstream Park, she won the Forward Gal (gr. III), Davona Dale (gr. III), and Bonnie Miss (gr. II) Stakes by a combined 26 lengths, then took the Ashland Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland by 6 1/2 lengths. Favored in the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) a month later, she finished unplaced and missed the remainder of the season following the removal an ankle chip. The Oaks would be her only race in which she failed to win or place in 23 career starts.

As a 4-year-old, Glitter Woman won the Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) at Sportsman's Park and ran second to subsequent champion older mare Escena in the Apple Blossom Handicap (gr. I) at Oaklawn Park. She also was second to Mossflower in the Hempstead Handicap (gr. I) at Belmont Park.

Glitter Woman, who raced as a 5-year-old, retired with 10 wins, a dozen stakes-placings, and earnings of $1,256,805. Bred by K. David Schwartz and his Golden Orb Farm, she was bought privately by Allen for $400,000 after she won her first start by 10 lengths for Frank Mancari. Claude R. "Shug" McGaughey trained her for Allen.

Twelve-year-old Glitter Woman (Glitterman--Carols Folly, by Taylor's Falls) produced four named foals. Her only winner, Political Force, was graded stakes-placed as a 2-year-old in 2005. A daughter, 4-year-old My Friend C. Z., was sold for $700,000 at the recent Keeneland January horses of all ages sale by Indian Creek, agent, to AGS Thoroughbred.
