The owner of the 3-year-old Thoroughbred that wins the 2006 running of the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) May 6 at Churchill Downs will take home the largest share of the race's $2 million purse, but that victorious owner will also become the first in Derby history to be handed the keys to an International RXT truck.
The presentation of the International RXT truck to the Derby-winning owner reflects a growing commitment by the International Truck and Engine Corporation as a corporate partner for Churchill Downs. The truck, which will be built to the specifications of the winning owner, carries a value of approximately $95,000.
The RXT is five-ton, 22-foot long commercial pickup truck introduced in 2005 by International. The winning owner will be presented with a special model that features a fifth wheel towing package for hauling horse trailers.
"The Kentucky Derby is one of the world's most exciting sports events and International's decision to strengthen its corporate partnership with Churchill Downs reflects the company's appreciation of the Derby's value and importance," said Jim Gates, general manager of Churchill Downs. "International has been a presence at the Derby for several years and we welcome and appreciate the company's decision to increase its participation."
The International RXT is a 4 X 2 pickup truck that stands eight feet tall and seats five. It features an eight-foot bed, a towing capacity of more than 11 tons and commercial hydraulic brakes for stopping large loads or horse trailers.
