Larry Taylor won the 1,000th Thoroughbred race of his career Saturday night at Sam Houston Race Park.
Taylor reached the milestone in the second race, piloting Rare and Sixy ($4.20) to victory for trainer M. Brent Davidson.
"This was a good feeling and something I've been wanting for a long time," said Taylor. "I was so glad to win it on a horse trained by the Davidsons. I go way back with Brent and Colleen. I've been riding for them since they trained Quarter Horses in Oklahoma."
The 38-year-old rider is the leading rider at the northwest Houston racetrack. He has 41 wins so far in the current Thoroughbred meeting.
