El Corredor Colt Sells for $160,000 at OBS

An
El Corredor yearling colt led the way Tuesday during the second session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co. winter mixed sale in Central Florida. He brought a $160,000 final bid from B.G.H. Ranch in the second of three consignor-preferred sessions during the four-day auction.
The dark bay or brown colt is the first foal out of the 5-year-old unraced
Tale of the Cat mare Ataleoftwokitties, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Long Distance (by Expensive Decision). Beth Bayer, agent, consigned the yearling.
Two other horses sold for six-figure prices Tuesday. Dance Special, a half-sister to grade III winner Real Dandy (by
Yankee Victor)and to stakes winner Premeditation (by
Afternoon Deelites ), brought $135,000 as a broodmare prospect. Journeyman Bloodstock purchased the 5-year-old
Theatrical – Berga mare from Moreau Bloodstock International, agent. A yearling colt from the first crop of
Repent went for $120,000 to pinhooker Murray Smith, agent. He is out of the 9-year-old winning
Cherokee Run mare Carrenia, who is a half-sister to stakes winner Bubba Menkus (by
Silver Ghost). Cloverleaf Farms II and Brent Fernung, agents, consigned the colt.
OBS reported that 184 horses were sold for $3,122,000. The gross revenue was down 11.0% from last year's second session total of $3,509,100 for 187 head. The average of $16,967 represented a 9.6% decline from 2005's comparable figure of $18,765.
The median price declined 33.3%, from $12,000 last year to $8,000 this year. The buy-back rate rose fell from 32.7% to 29.5%.
This year's cumulative figures for two sessions are 359 horses sold, a gross of $6,563,900, and an average of $18,284. Last year, 373 horses were sold for a gross of $7,164,800 and an average of $19,209, based on OBS calculations.
