Retired Track Announcer Costy Caras Dead

Retired track announcer Constantine L. "Costy" Caras, who learned his profession from the great New York announcer Fred "Cappy" Capossela, died Jan. 7 at a Charles Town, W.Va., health care center. He was 81.

An Army veteran of World War II, Caras worked 33 years as an announcer at Charles Town, Pimlico, and defunct Shenandoah Downs.

Caras is survived by his wife, Carole, and two stepsons.
