Jay Em Ess Stable's 5-year-old Suave, among the nation's top older horses in 2005, breezed five furlongs in 1:01 3/5 at Gulfstream Park Sunday in preparation for the Feb. 4 Donn Handicap (gr. I).

"He got here on Dec. 12," said trainer Paul McGee. "He ran several hard races – the (Jockey Club) Gold Cup (gr. I), Breeders' Cup (Classic, gr. I), and Clark (gr. II) – and we gave him a little break after the Clark. Today was his second work back since we got here. He'll train straight up to the Donn Handicap."

In his last three starts, Suave finished second in the Gold Cup and fifth in the BC Classic, both at Belmont Park, and second by a head to Magna Graduate in the Clark at Churchill Downs.

"The Clark was tough to swallow, particularly over his home track," McGee said. "It was a horse race all the way through the stretch, and I thought he was going to win."

Suave sports a career record of 21-5-6-2 and earnings of $1,114,583. He was impressive capturing the Saratoga Breeders' Cup (gr. II) by more than two lengths last summer.
