Melnyk Resigns as NYRA Trustee

Eugene Melnyk, whose racing stable is one of three finalists for an Eclipse Award as outstanding owner of 2005, has resigned his position on the New York Racing Association's board of trustees, according to a release from NYRA. No reason was given for the resignation. Melnyk had served on NYRA's board since August 2003.
A resident of Barbados, West Indes, Melnyk and his wife, Laura, contributed $1 million to the Belmont Child Care Association in 2003 that established Anna House, Belmont Park's child day care facility named for Melnyk's daughter.
The chairman of the Biovail pharmaceutical firm, Melnyk has an extensive racing stable trained by Eclipse Award winner Todd Pletcher. Among the horses campaigned this year by Melnyk was Flower Alley, winner of the Travers Stakes (gr. I). He also campaigned 2004 champion sprinter Speightstown
