Australian Sire Jeune Dead

Former Dubai-owned Foster's Melbourne Cup (Aust-I) winner Jeune died at age 17 Jan. 4, coincidentally the same day as Sheikh Maktoum of Dubai.Jeune, who won four group I stakes, was owned and raced in Australia by Sheikh Maktoum's brother, Sheikh Hamdan.Jeune (Kalaglow--Youthful, by Green Dancer) retired to Lindsay Park Stud in 1996 and became an instant success getting 10 first crop 2-year-old winners. This year, he covered 94 mares and is currently sixth on the Australian Sires Premiership.So successful as a sire did he become that he was transferred last season to the powerful Collingrove Stud in Victoria.He has left us having sired 30 stakes winners and the earners of $15 million. He got the international group I winner Mummify, who snared the Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup (Aust-I) and On A Jeune, who was second in the most recent Melbourne Cup.
